House of Lord challenges Boris Johnson on his reneging on our commitment to aid the reunification of unaccompanied child migrants who have parents already legally in the UK.
The government says more than 41,000 children have been given protection in the UK since 2010
But that is not the answer to the question they are being asked. We want to know why has the Government removed this provision that is our commitment to refugee children from the bill?
It was removed.
That removal was a choice.
No matter what they say, this is policy change.
He had put down the amendment seeking to reinsert the original commitment. By the time you read this the House of Commons, Johnson’s supermajority has overturned these aendements.
so why am I telling you? Because these children deserve better and if such a commitment can be reneged on without vocal dissent then I fear what the Government, emboldened by successfully passing this power grab without a wimpier, will do.
Speaking during the debate,Lord Dubbs urged the government not to "close the door" on refugee children, arguing that offering a safe, legal route into the UK would "thwart the traffickers".
"I believe we are essentially on the side of public opinion and on the side of humanity,"
