This Is Not An “Update”. This Is A Downgrade of the Human Rights Act.
- on page 48 of the Tory manifesto it says they would "update" the Human Rights Act.
But first, with deep regret,
I am informing you that we have already lost rights.
The repeal of the Charter of Fundamental Rights official.
You and I, your mum, my sister, all of us, everyone, has materially lost rights.
The media failed us so profoundly that this has happened without the vast majority of the population being aware.
This is why passing on what I tell you is so important do not rely on the media to do so.
They have failed to, despite the clamour from human rights organisations that has been growing since the start of the legislating for brexit and by the time Johnson got his hands in the bill they were joined by law societies and democracy watchdogs.
Yet I bet you didn’t hear about it the only reporting was minimal from the independent and the guardian.
So, if we can’t rely on them, it’s perhaps worth listening to me.
The “update” (downgrade) Johnson wants to make.
The particular “update” they have in mind would make it so it doesn't apply to any human rights breach from before the act was created (I think that was year 2000)
Why are they doing this?
They are doing this because it means they don't have to investigate killings like those of Bloody Sunday.
Investigating veterans from the war in Northern Ireland that are accused of murder there were killings by British army of innocent civilians just as British civilians were killed by the IRA.
It should be noted; when the right talk about there being no new evidence, that is not the point. The point is that the evidence there is has never been looked at!
Besides the fact it is immoral to ignore the horrors inflicted by one group and condemn the same actions of another and to strip us of rights, there is another big problem:
The Good Friday Agreement, (to date, the most successful peace agreement in the world) includes the commitment to investigate the human rights breaches and killings by both sides.
So this change also undermines the Good Friday Agreement on top of the effects of brexit.
This an offensive disregard for the people of Northern Ireland.
This should outrage everyone anyway but there are also wider implications relevant to all of us.
As one opposition MP said (paraphrasing):
“Once you make an exemption you have a precedent for making more exemptions”
PART FOUR
The newspapers that support Boris Johnson and Torys in general oppose The Rights Act.
"The Human Rights Act Should be scrapped"
This is a word for word, an exact quote from The Telegraph. ,Or, as I call it, The Telegrift. )
Sorry, there’s more
Just to give you context but without delving into everything, I appreciate this post alone has been quite the deluge, here is a brief run down of the changes, the downgraded of important pillars of any robust democracy, already dine by brexit bill laws.
Election Manipulation: Voter Suppression, Booting Tory votes by giving expats votes for life & Gerrymandering
Hiarachy of courts undermined
independence of judiciary threatened
Balance of powers between the executive, government & parliament
Refusing to put limits in the powers. Removed time limit - they will now have these powers literally forever.
Driving a coach and horses through devolution.
All the parliaments of all the other country of the UK have voted to say they do not consent to the withdrawal bill but it passed non the less.
They have betrayed EU citizens & unaccompanied refugee children.
(More on this in an upcoming post)
When I say This administration is a threat to democracy never for get that this government only exists because of Brexit so it’s important that those who do know the truth never forget and never relent in telling this truth:
Brexit never had any democratic legitimacy
That the result of the referendum was illegitimate because:
likely interference of Russia - we don’t know this for sure because Johnson who is rumoured to be compromised by the Russians has refused to release it so far.
the biggest breaches of electoral law in UK history, proven beyond reasonable double by both Leave campaigns.
Had that vote been binding it would now be void.
Looking at the power grab made possible by brexit it's hard not to think of this as a modern coup.
