White lady critique from a white woman.
I totally understand why @Akheyre76 was shouting at this horrible woman even after she accepted it was his car.
Anyone who doesn’t needs an empathy transplant.
Where was the fucking apology?
Where was the engagement with the question of why she suspected him of stealing? I’m quite sure this lady doesn’t ask every person she sees getting in or out of a car if they’re nicking it.
So what does she think the difference was? Well, in the video she thoughtlessly defaults to condescending attempts to assure that it wasn’t at all due to his blackness. Her tone and approach to the whole exchange is so patronising as well as, whether she knows it or not, gaslighting.
But what else could it be? She hasn’t questioned her thought process even after it was clear that process led her to the wrong conclusion. I don’t understand it at all.
Sad thing is I’d say this staggering lack of self awareness is far too common. People will not accept they might be wrong or that they might not know everything.
We can’t progress that way.
Or, at least, they can’t.
While, to a degree, we do have to be tactical regarding risks of backlash, we can’t and won’t wait for them. If they won’t move forward with us it’s them that abandoned society not the other way and because change is natural and necessary to achieve justice.
