It was decided in our British courts in 1999 that asylum seekers retain the right to pass through other counties and that they cannot be criminally penalised for their mode of entry.

A UK judge ruled that
“some element of choice is indeed open to refugees as to where they may properly claim asylum.”
The judge specified that
“any merely short term stopover en route” to another country should not forfeit the individual’s right to claim refugee status elsewhere.
This means people who enter the UK by illegal means can legitimately make a claim for asylum, even after passing through other “safe” countries, provided they do so directly after arriving

Senior official Abi Tierney told Home Affairs committee of MPs on 3 September that 5,000 people have crossed the Channel in small boats so far this year.
Of those, 98% have claimed asylum.
The Home Office has issued an initial decision on around half of those asylum claims so far.
The breakdown of those roughly 2,500 decisions is as follows:
20% granted
10% refused
71% have been refused because *“we not the responsible country”
*A Loophole called the Dublin Reglulation that is no longer applicable post Brexit.
Tyson Hepple, head of Immigration Enforcement, later clarified that:
“The 71% are not being refused in the sense that the Home Office thinks they are not genuine refugees.”
So why are they being Refused?
Hepple continued:
“The department just believes that another European country has the legal responsibility for deciding whether they should be granted asylum or not:
The people Abi was referring to are those we are trying to transfer to another European state under the *Dublin regulations…”
*(NO LONGER APPLICABLE)
“We are seeking to transfer them to another European state in order to have their asylum claim heard there, because they claimed asylum in that country on their way to the UK.”
Note that, even when this was the legal landscape the U.K. was operating in, that the government were not able to refuse them on the basis that they merely passed though another EU state but that they had to have already applied in one.
So, even prior to Brexit, when operating under the absurd Dublin regulation still gave us this loophole, you are wrong.
Hell, you'd even be wrong of you were right!
What do I mean that?
Well, if you were right and it was illegal to pass through “safe countries”.
Because such a rule makes no sense whatsoever; why should responsibility for ba determined by proximity to the place from which the refugees come.
the worst is when this nonsense a position is paired with the claim that they do think we should help “genuine refugees”.
It is truly disgusting in its hypocrisy.
what is so contradictory about this?
So to those of this view living in the U.K., stop lying and just say you mean the only genuine refugees would be those who fled from their homes in France or The Republic of Ireland.
For good measure, (for fascists overkill being about right) you’d also be wrong if you were right about for crossing the channel being “illegal”(you’re not).
Hypothetically, if the law was as it currently is not, that crossing by irregular routes wide fall foul of the law, you'd still be dead wrong if you claimed that the demand that this (nonexistent) law be obeyed had anything to do with a desire to see anything that resembles fairness.
Considering that, unlike almost every other country, we don’t let people apply at the fucking border, a it would no more than a baited trap to crimianlise them for accessing the right to asylum we claim to hold out to those in need, the only way they can.
That would just be fucking sick.
Fairness of the rules must be demonstrated claiming all they want is for people to play fairly by them.
So, in summary;
Stop lying about these people
Stop pretending you are concerned, at all, with fairness.
Maybe learn shit before making assertions as to who is a moron.
