NHS staff coronavirus inquests told not to look at PPE shortages - Guardian
This is absurd, not only have they given themselves immunity for criminal negligence in the emergency legislation now inquests are being restricted.
There isn’t the evidence yet that government have made this happen but I suspect pressure was applied. They are the only ones with the motive to hide this profound failure to provide PPE.
The guidance was issued by The chief coroner for England and Wales.
Mark Lucraft QC, has issued guidance:
“an inquest would not be a satisfactory means of deciding whether adequate general policies and arrangements were in place for provision of PPE to healthcare workers”.
Then, weirdly, he says:
“if there were reason to suspect that some human failure contributed to the person being infected with the virus”, an inquest may be required. The coroner “may need to consider whether any failures of precautions in a particular workplace caused the deceased to contract the virus and so contributed to death”
This is weird because this part of the statement suggest inquests should be carried out if there is concern that human failure contributed to the death but then goes on to say this:
“An inquest is not the right forum for addressing concerns about high-level government or public policy.”
So he really does seem to be saying that if inquests are carried out they should specifically discount the issue of PPE.
