House of Lords: It’s a trap!

‪I have already seen such calls for abolition of the second chamber and I promise you, Cummings and Johnson will be rubbing their hands with glee to see it.‬ ‪

We know they want to weaken the House of Lords. This is clear in many actions including the proposed move to another part of England.

Initiall, moving the House of Lords seems fairly innocuous, potentially even good in how it could perhaps make people feel more included in democracy.

However, peers say this will significantly impede their ability to discharge their duty to adequately scrutinise legislation.

They say that their physical presence in Westminster, being where the rest of law making process is happening, actually really does matter.

Mainly, they say, because it’s harder for a minister to lie to your face and also that they chase things up with people in Westminster, (waiting outside their office etc.), whereas it’s the easiest thing in the world for ministers and government officials to avoid questions via email; simply don’t reply. ‬ ‪

Remember, if the government wants something, it is probably bad. ‬

Something important to consider in politics that I learnt from living with chronic Illness:

Also it must be remembered that bad things are better than worse things. That doesn’t mean accepting things the way they are its simple the worse you let something get the harder it will be to reform and redeem it.

The BBC in indeed bad, just like an unelected House of Lords, packed with absurd and offensive appointments is - like Lebedov - is bad, but calling of it’s abolition is worse. ‬

‪There a reasons government are threatening the BBC and the House of Lords.

We continually discover that The reasons Cummings and Johnson have for current conservative policy and governance so often seems to be borderline evil and always, at least, awful.

The government’s reason for moving the House of Lords, as well as firing up the opposition to call for its abolition is clear:

They seek to dismantle the infrastructure of democracy.

So, better to assume, certainly safely in this case, whatever the reason for actions from this awful government, the likelihood is that it doesn’t just not serve our interests but will actively impede our efforts.‬
