Ministers criticised over plan to scrap Public Health England - Guardian

Prof Sir Simon Wessely, the president of the Royal Society of Medicine and a former adviser to the government, said:

“PHE employs some of the best, brightest and most hardworking clinicians and experts we have. There are simply not enough of them, which can partly be explained by the steady reduction in funding over the last seven years.

“Perhaps we do need a more joined-up structure, but we should not scapegoat PHE for the failures in the system in which they are but one cog.”

* Why do I compile these summaries?

Many people don’t have the time to read all these articles so I’m hoping these quick read summaries will help to get people who ordinarily don’t have room in their life for keeping track of the news. So important as many of those problems in life that keep us from engaging in politics are actually down to politics.

I believe they can change their lives, we all can.

How?

This change can only be made one way: A method you won’t find in self help books.

Political engagement & collective action

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
— Margaret Mead

So, ultimately, I hope these summaries will make political engagement more accessible because at the moment, with the precariousness of too many lives, it is impossible to blame them for not being able to stay informed or having the time to get involved.

So I’m trying to find ways that political engagement can fit into such relentlessly busy lives. I’ve had to find alternatives to the traditional ways one can be part of that change despite my disability.

As a disabled person I’ve always have to find alternatives and work arounds so I feel that that thought process could be useful in my aim of finding ways people living precarious lives can get involved and work for the change for the country that would mean change in their lives.

However, the reasons it is hard for me to engage in the traditional way are very different to those that prevent many many people in the UK doing so.

Because of this, I know that what I have to offer in terms of the way I think will only be effective when properly informed. So, feel free to contact me if you have ideas.
